Transmission Services
Keeping up with your vehicle’s transmission is key to having a smooth and safe driving experience. Like an oil change, your vehicle should also receive routine transmission services.
Manual Transmission Service
Transmission fluid can become easily contaminated over time as metal gears and bearings inside the transmission start to wear down. As the parts wear down, the metal particles float around in the transmission fluid causing the transmission to lose its lubrication over time. If the contaminated fluid remains undrained, your vehicle’s transmission will likely have a shorter life. It is recommended that manual transmission vehicles should receive transmission services every 30,000 to 60,000 miles.
Automotive Transmission Service
Like manual transmission vehicles, the transmission fluid in an automatic transmission car can become contaminated; however, the way the transmission fluid becomes contaminated is a bit different. Automatic transmissions actually generate heat that causes the transmission fluid to break down and degrade with use over time. Un-flushed transmission fluid results can also result in a transmission’s life to be shortened. It is recommended that automatic transmissions receive transmission services every 60,000 to 100,000 miles.
